Description:

No interdorsal ridge. Elongate body that is pale olive-gray fading to a white belly. No black-tips to the dorsal or pectoral fins. May have markings on second dorsal fin. Pointed snout with black or dusky blotch on snout tip. Teeth are different in upper and lower jaws. Second dorsal fin starts before the middle of the anal fin. First dorsal fin starts over or just behind the free tip of the pectoral fin.

125 cm (4 ft)

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

Blacknose Sharks have a black smudge on the end of their nose, and no pigmentation on first dorsal or pectoral fins. No interdorsal ridge. Distinguished from Finetooth by the different shape of teeth on top and bottom. Distinguished from Atlantic Sharpnoke by the dark snout tip on the Blacknose shark.

Juveniles Distinguishing Characteristics:

Black smudge on tip of nose. Juvenilles are known to form large schools and occasionally associate with mullet and anchovies.

Range:

North Carolina to southern Brazil

Habitat:

Inshore to continental slope. Sandy or corral reef-bottoms. Common in bays and lagoons.
